FAQ's
1. Why does the Board need to consider a vaccination policy?
COVID-19 is in the community and many NZMCA members are at high risk of contracting the virus. Protecting our volunteers and members from Covid-19 is the Board’s primary concern. The feedback we’re receiving suggests many members attending NZMCA events would like the confidence that other members are also fully vaccinated. A vaccination policy should also make it easier for the NZMCA to continue providing self-containment services throughout each setting within the new ‘traffic light’ protection framework.
2. How does the new protection framework apply to self-containment inspections?
The table enclosed outlines how inspections and self-containment days would operate under each of the new ‘traffic light’ level settings. Note: this table was prepared on 4 November 2021 based on the information made available to the public via covid.govt.nz.
3. Why might NZMCA Self-containment Officers need to be fully vaccinated too?
On 26 October 2021, the Government confirmed vaccinations will be required for all workers at businesses where customers need to show COVID-19 Vaccination Certificates, such as hospitality and close-contact businesses. Therefore, if the Board decides members must be fully vaccinated when requesting self-containment inspections or attending self-containment days, any vaccination policy will have to extend to Self-containment Officers too.
4. What if I refuse to get fully vaccinated?
Unless you have a justifiable exemption, for the safety of other members and visitors you will not be able to carry out self-containment inspections.
5. How will I be expected to monitor and enforce a vaccination policy?
This process is still being considered and your feedback will help shape how we monitor and enforce a vaccination policy. Whatever process is adopted, it will need to protect your health and safety and avoid difficult situations with those who hold strong views on the vaccine.
